Q: When can we register?
A: Registration opens in February for returning campers, and in March for new applicants. Application forms will be available on our registration page at that time.

Q: How many children will be in the camp?
A: There is space for 35 participants.

Q: How many instructors are there?
A: There are four music instructors, one dance instructor, and a separate outdoor staff.

Q: Can my child take part in only the music programme?
A: Because the camp is held at the outdoor centre, all participants must also be registered for the outdoor programme.

Q: Which tunes should my child know before coming to camp?
A: There are no tunes in particular which you should know. If you can play Twinkle Twinkle and a few other pieces you will be fine. Visit our tunes page to see what we played last year.

Q: Can we get the sheet music for the tunes that will be taught this year?
A: At Fiddles and Fun the emphasis is on learning by ear. New tunes will be taught at camp, so you do not need to learn them beforehand. The sheet music will be available to take home at the end of camp.

Q: Does my child need to know how to read music?
A: No. Classes are taught with an emphasis on learning by ear in the traditional manner.

Q: My son is only 5, but he is very advanced and has already been playing for a year. Can he come to camp?
A: The camp is geared toward 8-13 year olds. Younger children would find it too challenging, both physically and socially.

Q: This is my child's first time at summer camp and she doesn't know anybody else who's going. Will she feel left out?
A: Fiddles and Fun starts with an afternoon of games designed to introduce the children to one another, the staff, and the camp grounds. Spending a week together and sharing experiences in music and outdoor adventure often leads to strong bonds and many new friendships.

Q: My child is coming to camp with a friend. Can they be in the same group?
A: Participants are divided into music groups based mainly on playing ability, and into outdoor groups based on age and size. We can usually arrange for friends to be together in at least one of these groups.

Q: Can a complete beginner come?
A: We do not teach beginning technique. Applicants need to be already comfortable on their instruments and able to play a few tunes.

Q: I would like my child to have a private lesson with his favourite instructor. Can I arrange to do this during camp time?
A: Camp is filled with group activities and only group classes are taught at this time. You can talk to the instructor and possibly arrange something for after the camp week is over.

Q: What should we bring?
A: Closer to camp time we will send you more information, including an equipment list.

Q: I will be camping on site with my child. Can I bring my dog?
A: No. Animals are not permitted at the Outdoor Education Centre.

Q: Can we camp at the Outdoor Education Centre the night before camp starts?
A: No. The centre is booked for groups throughout the summer, including the weekends before and after fiddle camp. Our access starts at noon on Monday and ends on Friday.
